Doctor’s referrals are not essential for private treatment. Though many of our patients are referred to us by their GP or specialists, you don’t need to have a referral to see one of our professional physiotherapists.

A referral from your doctor is needed for treatment to be covered by Worker’s Compensation (SIRA), Compulsory Third Party (CTP), or for treatment to be covered by Veterans Affairs (DVA).

A referral is needed to claim a rebate for physiotherapy treatment through Medicare. This referral is only available from your GP for people with complex or long standing (chronic) health conditions under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) / Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. Please discuss this with your GP.

If you have extras cover as part of your private Health Insurance, physiotherapy will most likely be covered. Health fund rebates are available for most of our services. You do not need a doctor’s referral to claim through your health fund. All health funds have different rebates which depend on your level of ‘extras’ cover, we suggest you call your fund for more information on your cover.

Sports Physio South can automatically claim your rebate from your private health fund card on the spot through Hicaps at the time of payment. Please bring your Private Health Insurance Card with you for use of this facility. The remaining gap (if any) can be paid by cash, eftpos, VISA or Mastercard.

Medicare does not normally cover the costs of physiotherapy treatment. A doctors referral is needed to claim for physiotherapy treatment to be rebated by Medicare. This referral is only available from your GP for people with complex or long standing (chronic) health conditions under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) or Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. Please discuss this with your GP.

Fees are payable on the day, at the time of consultation. Please bring your private health fund card if you belong to a fund and we can automatically claim your rebate on the spot at the time of payment using Hicaps. Please notify reception as soon as possible if you If you are unable to attend your next scheduled appointment. We ask that you give a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule appointments. CTP Insurance and Workers Compensation Insurance do not generally cover charges for non attendance. These charges will need to be met by the patient.

It is our policy to try to schedule you with the same Physiotherapist over the course of your treatment. Occasionally, substitutions must be made because of illness or holidays, but we will inform you of this as early as possible. If, at any time over the course of your treatment, you would prefer to visit with another Physiotherapist, please inform our reception team and they can re-schedule your appointment for you.
